How to Open Junior on macOS

Quick guide to install and run Junior on your Mac

⚠️ macOS Security Notice

Junior is not code-signed by Apple because we're an independent developer. macOS will show a security warning when you first open it. This is normal and expected. Follow the steps below to install safely.

📥 Installation Steps

Step 1: Download and Move to Applications

  1. Download Junior for macOS
  2. Open the downloaded .dmg or .zip file
  3. Drag Junior.app to your Applications folder

Step 2: You'll See This Warning ⚠️

"Junior.app" cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

Don't worry! This is expected. Follow Step 3 to open the app safely.

Step 3: Open Junior (Choose Method A or B)

✅ Method A: Right-Click Method (Easiest)

  1. Right-click (or Control + click) on Junior.app
  2. Select "Open" from the menu
  3. In the dialog that appears, click "Open" again
  4. ✅ Junior will now start!

✅ Method B: System Settings Method

  1. Try to open Junior normally (double-click)
  2. When blocked, open System Settings → Privacy & Security
  3. Scroll down to find: "Junior.app was blocked..."
  4. Click "Open Anyway"
  5. Confirm by clicking "Open"
  6. ✅ Junior will now start!

📌 Important

  • You only need to do this ONCE
  • After the first time, Junior will open normally
  • Your Mac will remember you approved this app
  • This is a standard process for all unsigned apps

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Is Junior safe to open?

Yes! Junior is safe. The warning appears because we're an independent developer and haven't paid for Apple's developer certificate. The app is secure and doesn't contain any malware.

Why isn't Junior code-signed?

Apple's developer certificate costs $99/year. As an independent developer, we've chosen to invest that money into building better features for you instead. Many quality apps from indie developers are unsigned.

What if these steps don't work?

Try this additional step in Terminal:

xattr -cr /Applications/Junior.app

This removes quarantine flags. Then try opening Junior again.
